new labs

jan 2011:

TSH  0.386  (.450-4.500)
T3  105  (71-180)  not sure why free wasnt done because i know it was marked "free"...i looked at form myself
freeT4  1.58  (.82-1.77)

april 2011
TSH   0.193  (.450 - 4.500)
T3  96  (71-180)
FT3  2.7  (2.0 - 4.4)
FT4  1.52  (.82 - 1.77)

went to endo today for results.  after we discussed the rai body scan that is to be done...i asked him if he could recommend a dr...that i was new to the area...and that NOW i have a rather large lump on my breast.  that was discussed and he started out.   i stopped him and asked about my labs to which he replied "oh they look good, your tsh is normal".  GGGRRRR   i didnt even get into a discussion with him about that...just told him that i felt like SH*T and that my hair was still falling out.

he then decreased my levothyroxine from 125 to 100 and added cytomel 25mcg with instructions to take one half pill daily.

what do you think about my labs and meds?

actually i never whinned...lol.  i was too concerned about the new lump and surprised i even remembered to ask about my labs, so that i could bring it to the board here.

stella...i take my levo at night.  if i didnt...i would never take it.  i wake up running and when i took tried to take it in the a.m. - i found that i would miss at least 3-4 times a week.  i read some report that said that it was found that when taking it at night - it was absorbed better.  dont know if that is true or not...but since starting it at night, i have not missed any days.

guess if i've got to take the cytomel during the day...i'm going to have to find some way to take my levo during the day also.

thanks for responding...i highly value your opinion and expertise in this field.

Actually I am excited your doctor did the switch and put you on the blend of thyroid meds. At least that's my 2 cents.

Your FT4 on the last lab looked stalled to me and hoovered on the high end of comfort compared to the FT3 lab that I am using to campare FT4 to.

You might laugh but the doctor may have said TSH looks fine - didn't ecknowledge your "whining (in his eyes - not mine) about the hairloss and sh!TTy feelings - and that was the end of the conversation in your eyes but his mind moved and thought T3 meds would help and I think they will.

Its a hefty dose of Cytomel to start and I feel that you will get the very best out of it by splitting it 2 x's a day. There is no restriction to taking your other thyroid med either so when you take your T4 medication popped hald the dosage of T3 with it and then later take the other half.

If you are supplementing with any vits or minerals it would be best to take them at night. Save the day for your meds.

How long have you been on thyroid meds, and what led you to want RAI? Of course your ft3 is low and that's why you feel bad. However I have had lowish ft3&4 numbers and I actually felt fine, while others would have felt terrible. It's all about how YOU feel.
Have they done a vitamin mineral test on you. While your thyroid panel isn't ideal it isn't bad either, and the hair loss could be coming from something as small as a mineral/vitamin deficiency, especially iron.

I hope you get the lumped so you can have  peace.

I thought that Cytomel is 5 times as potent as Synthroid? When I added Cytomel in, they started at 5 mcg and went from there. 25 mcg seems pretty high to start with.
