I have decided that unless he just forces something to numb the area, I will lay there still like everyone on here has had to do. I thank you all for your help. Now my Thyroid is operating fine, from what they tell me, but it seems to me that since my blood work shows that it is normal and I am on 100 mg of Synthroid daily, would that not make my blood work be abnormal? Could it send me into Hyperthyroidism? And can you tell me when the excessive weight gain will stop? I will let you all know what the FNA shows. Thanks again to you all. It is nice to be able to talk to people who have already experienced all this stuff.
The FNA MUST be ultrasound guided this way it will provide the best possible info.
if nodule is 'warm' , not cold it can be composed from normal overgrown thyroid tissue
I did get the numbing shot before my FNA and I must admit...that was the worst part. One of the numbing shots brought me to tears and my doc explained that the reason that one hurt so badly was because he needed to go really close to my windpipe because that is where one of the nodules sits. I have no idea, however, how bad it would have hurt had I not been numbed first. I hope I don't scare you to bad...sorry if I do but just wanted to tell you of my experience.
Most endocrinologists do not use any numbing simply because the needle for numbing is bigger than the needle for the FNA. I would be lying if I told you that it wasn't bad - it certainly wasn't good. But the benefits out weigh the uncomfortable procedure. It doesn't really hurt it just feels really really uncomfortable - you feel like you swallowed a golf ball afterward. It is truly not a very nice procedure. Try and relax through it - one good thing is it doesn't take long at all. Whew, thankfully.
