overactive thyroid

by mona1983, Jun 16, 2007 12:00AM
Is this cancer or what I think it is. I am 23 years old. When I was about 17 I started having chest pains and was very tired all the time. Over the years I have developed hair loss, high blood pressure, irritable bowels, excessive sweating, enlarged thyroid gland, chronic migranes and head aches and it even hurts when I touched a certain areas of my head. I was told by a doctor that I may have an overactive thyroid even though my tsh test was normal. I have had an ultrasound of my whole abdomonin it was normal. I have had several chest xrays that normal also. I have had leg swelling numbness in whole body. I have trouble concentrating. I get the butterfly rash on my face which is a common symptom of Lupus. I have trouble losing weight no matter how much I eat or excercise. I have to make bowel movements very often.

I know I am having classic symptoms of an overactive thyroid or autoimmune disease, but I can't but wonder is it cancer. I have been smoking for 9 years now. Some please help me.
honestly I do believe it is a thyroid condition eventhough my tsh was normal. I have researched it alot and found it is possible for your ths levels to be in the so called normal range and still have a thyroid disease. The last doctor I saw about 8 months ago, admitted that he suspected an overactive thyroid. I say admitted because some doctors have even suggested that it might be psychological. I admit that I have anxiety but its mostly due to my sickness. I am tired of getting normal test results when I know something is wrong. I guess it freaks me out that some people doubt if I am really sick. That makes me have anxiety. I have heard horror stories about people with autoimmune diseases and thyroid conditions going untreated because doctors thought maybe it was depression or some other psychological disorder.
By the way I am 5 months pregnant which makes me even more nervous that I have not yet been diagnosed. When I had my first intial prenatal visit with my ob gyn she did a complete physical exam. She said everything was find except for the fact that my thyroid gland was slightly enlarged. She then ask if my hair was falling out. I was told they would look into it and do some tests but that never happened. I have an appointment on the 23rd of May hopefully the doctor will look pass my normal tsh test and find out whats wrong.

update I saw the doctor and he said my levels are normal. I am going crazy I don't know what else to do.
