painful stretch marks.

by Lett182, Jan 12, 2008 06:37PM
Hi, I am a 25 years old and was diagnosed with Hypothroid 1 1/2 years ago.  It's suspected that I had had for quite some time due to my symptoms.. I am on synthriod and I do take it every day. I have not had any children, I am over weight but I am not morbidly obese.
The thing is that I look like a tiger on my torso becuase I have so many stretch marks. They start on my sides (closer to my back) and cover my stomach, they start about 4 inches below my belly button and go all the way to my bust.  They are about 1/4 inch wide deep and purple.
I can feel them forming, sometimes it is very uncomfortable.
I thought it was just because I was heavy and I was gaining weight, however I measured my wieght and my girth and nothing had changed.  But I still get more stretch marks.
I also have a few freinds who are VERY much more over weight than I am and we compared stretch marks because i wanted to see if this was normal. Mine are by far much worse than theirs are they were surpised at mine.
My younger brother who is NOT over wieght is having the same problem that I am.
I would like to find out whats going on or where to start looking because they are UGLY and PAINFUL
Is this related to thyriod? Or is there something else going on?  Is anyone else having problems like this?

Any help or advice would be nice!  THANKS!!!!

Have you asked your doctor about this?  It sounds like it might be a genetic problem if your brother has them, too.   I don't believe it has anything to do with the thyroid.  I have not heard of this problem, yet. Maybe a skin specialist could help.  Sorry I can't be of any help.  Keep watching this post, though.  Maybe someone will have better advice.
