partial thyroidectomy and swelling

I had the right side of my thyroid removed due to a benign cyst plus a small cyst on the left side.  There is no swelling on the right side where that entire portion of the thyroid was removed but on the left side there is some sewlling.  It is not excessive and has come up slowly over the past few days.  the swelling started when i came home from the surgery.  Is this normal?

Also, the doc has given me 75micrograms of synthroid.  shouln't the left side pick up the slack?  Is that why it is swelling?

Also i feel jittery and nervous not sure if this is my anxiety or if it is too much of the thyroid hormones in my blood.

Thanks,

Clarke

You may want to talk to stella, but sometimes certain anti-anxiety meds when used with synthroid, can actually cause swelling.  Don't mark my words, but ask Stella and she can tell you more about it.

a lot of us take anxiety meds with everything that we are going through, but just double check with your pharmacist...

Is it ok to take anxiety medication while going through this?  My anxiety has been through the roof before and after surgery.  I think it is worse now.

I had swelling after my partial all around my incision.  I was told it was the internal stitches and scar tissue, and also water retention in the area.  I was told by my surgeon that the swelling will disipate within a month, and it did.

I did not take any synthroid because I still had half a thyroid.  I was told to wait six weeks to see what my TSH was.  I was also told that if I took synthroid, that my thyroid would get lazy and not produce the hormone it could have produced on its own.

Perhaps speak to your doctor about this.

Try to be patient.  trust me, I know how hard it is!!  Try the magnesium.  Seriously.  It works!  I use Natural Calm. It's a powder and you mix it with a drink.  Only make sure you do it 4-6 hours away from when you take your synthroid.  It will eat into your synthroid if you take them close together.  You may want to talk to your dr. about adding in cytomel if your t3 is low.  That sometimes helps too!!!!

I (unfortunately) know a lot about swelling after TT and thyroid.  The good news is their will be a light at the end of the tunnel.  Ok.  You can have swelling after surgery due to surgery, but more than likely you are not regulated with your thyroid.  My face was swollen, sometimes on one side, sometimes the other, sometimes both and sometimes my eyes.  I never knew what I was going to get.  Once you are officially regulated this will subside. Although, you have to be patient.  Also, if you would take magnesium (at night) 4-6 hours away from your thyroid meds that also helps with swelling.  I would also recommend using sea salt for your salt.  That has been proven to help with swelling and its much healthier for you.      I hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any more questions.   Oh, one more thing.  Are you taking synthoid or armour.  sometimes synthroid can give you something called "moon face"
