please help

I have had issues with my thyroid for over 9 years. they have been watching the goiter, I have had all these syptoms but NO one put them all together. Lately my syptoms have gotten worse.  I have had hives all over my back, chest, and arms. I got sick about two weeks ago with over a 102 fever for over 5 days then over a 100 for a week.  my goiter was swelled very large at that time.  Very week and fatigued and joint pain.  I was told i have parvo, and that my thyroid issue made me more suseptable to it.

I was finally able to get a referal to an endro, in June, I have heart palp, my pulse is always over a 100 and my hands tremble sometimes my whole body shakes.  I thought that i may have gone hyper.  but the blood work came back and it says my TPO is 2029, my TSH is .00004, and my T-4 is 27.8.   Any ideas what I should ask?  I have been told i have IBS, so that doesn't match the Hypo conclusion.  I am on meds for depression, my hair is dry and breaks easy, cant stand the cold nor the heat and I can't remember a dang thing.  I stare for no apparent reason. I swing between being very thin to normal, never heavy.  I have gained 10 pounds in the last month, which for my frame is a lot.  I am fatigued.  And pretty much miserable. Does anyone know what It could be or what I should tell the doctor?

Crazyasabat,

I have to take back my statement, sorry about that.  I don't recognize your T3 and T4 levels. Do you happen to have your Labs reference range for them?

What I know at this point, high TPO indicates  autoimmune.  Which one would rely upon your T3 and T-4 levels and the uptake/scan can tell more. Have you gotten the results back?

I hope you get result from the Endo. in June, so you can get treated and start to heal from your symptoms.

One more thing, if you are estrogen, whether by natural means or medication, the Free T4 and Free T3  (FT-4 and FT-3) are best because estrogen interferes with the Total (Ts) levels, where as they don't interefere with FTs.  Not recognizing your T3 and T4 levels, not sure if they are Ts or FT.

Good luck in June.

Yes I have been treated for anxiety, depression and even been to a shrink.  Mood swings are terrible.  Told i have IBS, been treated for dozens of symptoms.  Been hospitalized overnight becuase of chest pains. Then 5 years later I was told by a nurse that I had heart palps.  The Doctor came in and said that that could be confusing, and that she thought it was normal.   They never put it together, because the test being done once every couple months would bounce.  One day i was told it was normal the next time it was low or high. We have moved several times which hasn't helped any, becuase I would just be getting to the point of treatment, then I would go to the new doctor, and tell them i had thyroid issues, they would run a test and it was normal.  Start over again.

My question, that the last doctor told me was possible is that it seems to fluctuate with my menstral cycle. Mid way through my goiter swells, and I have extreme issues, and now when my period starts I feel normal, my goiter is down and the symptoms seem to lesson. I also take effexor, I have been off and on it for the depression, I don't know if this worsens it?  But I have read other accounts that it possibly causes other issues?  Just wonder if there is something going on with my hormones, or if the thyroid issue causes it to be worse at certain points.  I have had extreme memory problems, I call it brain fog.  I cant think cant remember anything at times, I even missed my sons graduation from elementry school becuase i Got the time wrong, (totally not like me)   I made it to the end but I felt so bad.  Right now I feel like I am thinking better.  It seems like the symptoms disapear right before i go to get treated.  Like the hives, they have gone away totally.  but the joint pain is still there, don't know if I beleive the parvo diagnois.  Joint paint can be attributed to calcium low levels.  It can also be arthritis.  So frustrated.

Thank you all for making me feel like I'm not alone.  I'm so worried about losing my job, from the brain  fog, and from the tremors, people can even tell over the phone that I'm shakey.  I know its held me back.  I tell people Im actually very smart, I have 143 IQ, I just can't remember a dang thing.

Hi,
I totally agree with Graves lady, as I am one that has both. It took 14 years to get a correct diagnosis, it is confusing to most reg docs, and many don't run full panels/antibodies.  Yet they will freely treat your anxiety, depression and reccomend a physchiatrist...                In my case my TSH would fluctuate (still does) from normal one day, too high the next, then too low. treating it is nearly impossible until you get the correct diagnosis. Print off what test Graves lady told you to get, research hashitoxosis  and then take it in to your doctor. You do need treatment. I had RAI last week and I'm waiting to heal now.
Best of Luck to you....

Parvo is the dog disease but there is a stran that people get, (according to my doctor) She said that she has seen an outbreak in my area, and that people that have immune issues, (elderly, pregnant, small children babies,) are more susceptible.

To answer the 2nd question, I had an insurance change and had to wait the last few month, at this point it got worse.

I have had a uptake/scan, waiting on the results.

t-4 is 27.8
T-3 is 38
TSH  .0004
and here is my alarm,

TPO =  2029.

Not really sure what all these numbers indicate.  I beleive its Hyper, but I seem to have bouts of Hypo?   I was told I have Hasimotos but that was by my family Doctor.  The symptoms don't seem to match.

Thank you all for writing.  I really appreciate it, I wish there was a support group for this, I mean there are even support groups for Mental disorders, and depression, and this feels like both of those things.

You levels show hyperthyroidism!  You need to be treated!

Next test do the TSH, FT-4 and FT-3.  These can relate if autoimmune. Then have antibodies done to confirm: TSH Receptor Abs: TSI (stimulating) for Graves', blocking, and binding for Hashi, as well as the anti-TPO (thyroid peroxidase) and the anti-thyroglobulin for Graves and Hashi. Have all 5 done because some people can have both Graves' and Hashi.  If these confirm doctor might want to do other test like an uptake and if nodule/goiter is prestent other test should be done as well to rule out thyroid cancer.

I can't believe doctors let it go this far without some type of treatment!

Hey, I may sound dumb, but I really am curious. What is Parvo. I thought that was what dogs got. Or is Parvo short for something else? I am not trying to sound stupid or anything, I have just never heard of people with that disease.

Wow ! I again am no help to you but I have had a lot of the same issues...my weight has fluctuated, hate the cold  and heat.. tingling in my left arm and high bloodpressure at times . It is just so frustrating that so many  doctors only look at the numbers . I always feel like they are looking for a quick fix to get me in and out and fixed up. This site has made me realize that I have to get more informed and stand up for myself! Good luck to you I wish I could help more!!
