They will take it away 2 weeks prior to RAI, but that has not been scheduled yet. But after RAI, I go on Synthroid. I feel really good right now, but I probably still have not depeleted all of the bound T4 yet, so we'll see how I feel 2 weeks from now.

I'm just kinda nervous about what I'm hearing regarding Synthroid, but my endo (who is not really an endo, he's an internist that deals exclusively in thyroid issues) says that most of the problems are due to being hypo or hyper. He says I won't have problems because he will get me back to NORMAL (his emphasis). I hear he's a good guy, so at least for now I'll have to take his word for it.

Glad to hear you are feeling better.

get some benzoil peroxide to kill the bacteria in the breakouts. and exfoliate with a beta hydroxy acid of at least 2% solution.I prefer Paulas choce.

When do they take that away from you?  That will be for the RAI, right?  Remember, my TSH got so high because I had nothing from TT on - and that was 6 weeks.  I started feeling pretty nasty at week 4.  Getting better now, though!

I guess I'll just have to wait to see what happens. But, I will be sad when they take my Cytomel away because I really feel great. If I don't adapt well to Synthroid, maybe I can see if the endo will consider Cytomel for the long term (assuming there are no other adverse events that would preclude that.)

PS. I have a prescription for metronidazole, and that helps tremendously with the breakouts. I use Noritate, but I have to use it sparingly because it makes my eyes all puffy otherwise. It might be something in the carrier, because I react to cosmetics as well so I'm thinking of switching to Metrogel if the doc will let me. Gels don't bother me as much as creams do.

I have been on synthroid 200 & 175 mcg for over two months nothing on me....so maybe it depends on the person. Pam

I think that, for me, breaking out has more to do with my thyroid levels.  My skin has always been acne-prone but it was just beautiful while I was on the LID and going through RAI (with a TSH in the 70s).  As soon as my thyroid levels came back into the hyper range my face started breaking out terribly again.

I have very sensitive skin and Proactive is very drying for me.  I just have to wash my face 4-5 times a day.

Is there a reason that they don't keep people on Cytomel if it works well for them? I know you have to take it more often, but it seems to work well for me. I hate the thought of having to switch to Synthroid when I feel so good on the Cytomel.

how long have u been on the synthroid before it made u break out?  My endo said that it would make me break out so he started me on cytomel, but I switched to syntrhoid because i didn't like the way I felt on cytomel...so far it's been a month and everything seems okay....

Cytomel did not cause acne on me, the synthroid has big time.  I'm trying to wait 30 days before I say "nope not working" GL and hope you dont go through it!

I had considered trying it because I have been having problems, probably related to being perimenopausal. But for some reason everything has cleared up and I have no idea why (maybe the antibiotics?) But, I am not yet on synthroid (I'm taking Cytomel) and I just stopped the Abx. So if it starts up again, I might try the Proactive, especially if you have good results.

I haven't used it but my best friend used it when she went through a huge, long period of stress that made her skin break out very badly.  She liked it and said that it worked.  I hope you get the same results.

Oh noooooo!!  And yet another side effect?  I start my meds tomorrow, so I have no experience.  But am glad to see the different side effects and things that people are using.  I'll try to remember that in case it happens.  Thanks!
