question about my 11y/o daughter

I will try to keep this as short as I can. My daughter is 11 and she has had problems off and on for about 5 years. They have been severe abdominal cramps and severe constipation. And a few years ago at age 9 she ballooned up to 110pds for no reason. Now she is about 5'5" and weighs about 100pds and seem very skinny. She has still been suffering from constipation for the last 6 months. We have seen a GI dr that put her on mirilax and told us to increase her fiber, which we did. he said to bring her back in 2 months and if it wasn't getting better he was going to check her thyroid. We took her back, still having the same problems and he said to try it for 3 more months. We only have 2 pediatric GI drs around here and the other ones will not see her. I was just wondering if this could be caused by a thyroid issue? On my husband's side, his mother and grandmother both have Hashimotos. My grandmother has it as well, plus I was put on synthroid 2 weeks ago for hypo symptoms and enlarged thyroid with normal TSH but will be having more blood tests run.

I was thinking about taking her back to the family dr to have bloodwork done. But before i do, i just wanted to know if her only major issue right now is with the constipation, could it still be thyroid related?

thank you in advance for your advice

I agree with ifupleze.

Even if it isn't her thyroid causing the trouble right now, at least you will have baseline values for the future. Especially given the family history.

I plan on having my kids thyroid levels checked when they are a bit older so I have their baseline values if there is ever a problem.

Yes.  Constipation is one of the worst symptoms of low thyroid.  Get her to the MD asap and have a full panel blood work done including T3, T4, TSH, antibodies and all other aspects of thyroid.
