I'm not sure what questions to ask, but a friend of mine had hers out because it was so large with her hashimoto's disease she could no longer swallow. She had it done april 30 th. She only stopped her thyroid meds for three days, and other than having to take calcium right now she's doing great and all her heart issues have disappeared....Good Luck to you :)))
God Bless,
Pam
You should see the ENT surgeon and ask (or look for his record under the insurance website) to see how long he has been doing this kind of surgery? I found my under the Ins. website and I asked him again to confirm. Another question to ask is "Will you save my parathyroid glands?" I didn't ask this question because my surgeon told me on the 1st visit that he will save those glands. I had TT on May 1st and had the complication of low blood calcium due to those parathyroid glands were disturbed. It was only temporary issue but you should know in advance to be prepared for it. I read some posts on this forum that their parathyroid glands were removed by the surgeon now they have to suffer all the rest of their life! Good luck and take care. Keep us posted.
I am using a general surgeon that specializes in surgical oncology- especially thyroid. Ask him how many he/she does a month/year. Ask if you could possibly have only part of it taken out, will I have to have RAI therapy. I have an appointment MOnday to schedule my surgery for papillary cancer. Good luck.
