radiation?

by bentley905, Jul 13, 2007 09:38PM
I was diagnosed with hashimoto's five years ago by a biopsy.  My blood levels have remained fine until a month ago when it showed hyperthyroidism.  My doctor put me on tapazol and last week sent me for a thyroid ultrasound.  The scan was compared to one I had in 1997 (they didn't have a record of the one I had five years ago).  The results came back that one of the nodules is larger.  The doc wants me to see a radiation oncologist to have radiation to my thyroid, thus making me hypothyroid.  He said he think the hyper is a pre cursor to hypo.

My endocrinologist has retired and there is a 7 month wait to get in to see an  endocrinologist.  I am very nervous about having radiation.  For one thing, the nodule might not be bigger than it was 5 years ago and if it is , only a biopsy would say if it is malignant.  It wasn't 5 years ago.

HAve any of you had this treated in this manner?  Suggestions?  Help!
