relief from breathing difficulty

by marj1957, Dec 24, 2008 08:16AM
Where can I find a doctor who will listen to me and try to provide some relief?  They are all treating me as if I am crazy!  In the meantime I am struggling to breathe. I started using synthroid (50mcg) a week ago but have had no relief.  I have not been able to breathe normally for 4 months now.

Why were you put on Synthroid? Do you have a thyroid issue? Goiter?

I am also having breathing trouble.
Had TT Nov. 18 with papillary cancer and started Synthroid. Endo stopped it and started me on cytomel 2 weeks ago in preparation for RAI. Breathing seems worse since starting Cytomel.
I will stop taking that tomorrow and start LID diet.
Anyone have any clue why the shortness of breath??? Kinda scary.

Hugs and kisses and a Merry Christmas to you all!!!

One week is far too short to expect any significant change from taking Synthroid.  It usually takes up to 6 weeks to get the full effect.  Regarding the decision to put you on Synthroid, what tests were run and what were the actual results along with the ranges for each test?

What is the nature of your breathing difficulties?  Do you feel as if you are choking, like a thumb or something pressed against your throat or is it a shortness of breath issue whenever you move around?

I have a very dangerous thyroid condition. The only diagnosis that has been consistant is a very suppressed TSH level.
Most often my regular hormone levels, T3 & T4 are in a normal range. I've been sick for 2 yrs. as of Feb.07. In May'08 I was diagnosed w/graves disease after having an elevated T3. My worst symptoms are shortness of breath with severe palpitations. Dec'07 I was diagnosed w/atrial fibrillation, beating over 200 bpm. Nov 18' 08 I had a heart ablation due to SVT (supraventricular tachycardia). My heart is continually racing, my endocrinologist has refused any other treatment other than methimozole, I no longer have my atenolol (beta blocker). The only thing the methimozole does is it manipulates test results byshowing my hormone levels in a normal range. I am so sick daily w/body tremors, muscle aches, and difficulty breathing, not to mention I've lost over a third of my hair. I am really scared...can anyone give me some helpful advice. I live near St.Loius, MO.
