I also live in New York City (Queens),I found an excellent Thyroid Surgeon that handles diagnosis and surgery (if Needed), it took me 5 others before finding him and I was very satisfied. Let me know if you would like his info. He has two offices in New York City and in Queens.
I had a similiar diagnosis back in 09 and had my thyroid removed due to hurthle and follicular cells where cancer could not be ruled out until they were biopsied and the only way to do that was by having a Total Thyroidectomy...I had Hurthle cells on one side and Follicular cells on the other so a partial removal was out of the question.
I live in new york city - do u - i didnot go to my appt. the dr. has a bad rep - having alot of trouble finding a competent doctot - do u have any suggestions
You are welcome, don't ignore it, find the answer. Luckily if it is something serious, you have lots of time, thyroid cancer usually doesn't grow quickly and rarely spreads. The fear comes from NOT knowing, at least it did for me. Once I got a diagnosis (it took 7 months) I finally knew what I was up against and could deal with it. The not knowing killed me.
thank u for your help - i was so worried that i have an appt. this week with another endo dr. and will be getting a new biopsy - i have let this go for a year out of fear
The presence of hurtle cells in extensive amounts arranged in clusters can point to the hurtle neoplasm. Therefore you need to find out how many hurtle cells are present and hoaw they are arranged. Some loose hurtle cells can be found among the patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
The Hurthle cells are a concern, that could indicate cancer. Your blood work doesn't have anything to do with it. I had normal blood tests, I still had cancer. I did not have hurthle cells, they couldn't give me a diagnosis until 1/2 my thyroid came out. You have options, you can wait a couple of months and get the biopsy repeated, or you can have part of the thyroid removed and tested in the lab. How big is the nodule? It won't go away, so eventually you will probably lose your thyroid.
