so tired...can't sleep

I am going hypo for RAI. I am very tired at the end of the day. I try not to nap so I can sleep. But I lie in bed for hours sometime before I doze off. When I wake up at night I have trouble sleeping again. Any tips? Can I take a Tylenol PM or other sleep aid?

I took Ambien (per my doctor's orders, of course).  I would fall asleep during the day then stare at the ceiling all night.  I tried taking very warm bubble baths to warm up and get drowsy and I'd always fall asleep in them.  Scary.

I am hypo also and find it hard to get to sleep or stay asleep some nights.  I find a couple of cups of Sleepytime Time help me relax and get drowsy.  Sleepytime is available in the grocery store-Celestial Teas makes it. I usually havethe tea about 1 to 2 hours before bed. Hopefully it will help you relax.

Welcome to the LID RABBIT CLUB  (I feel like a rabbit hopping around while on this diet and oh by the way I also wear a tin foil hat)  HEE HEE HEE

Hey I have been on this LID since 1/11/08 and  hypo-hell is crappy!  I do not take naps during the day (I try to avoid it) and I then try to go to bed by 9 PM.  Sometimes I have to take Benedyrl to help me fall asleep also.  Just make sure it does not have the Red dye #3 in it.  Also try not to drink any cafffeine after 4 PM .  I also did the hot bubble baths with lavender and it is just so relaxing.  Watch out for anxiety and depression because it can sneak up on you!  I finally went to the doctor and she gave me a very low dose of ativan and it has helped so much!  She is going to re-evaluate me as soon as I am done with the RAI to see if I need a anti-depressant!

Also everyone is different with this LID!  I tried many different ways of eating the 5 or 6 oz of chicken to see how it made me feel the best.  I have noticed that if I have 3 oz of chicken with my noon meal and 3 oz at supper my food will stay with me longer.

I also use sliver almonds without salt in my salad and also in my hot veggies and this helps to curb the diet hunger pains.

If you have any other questions please ask!

Well, I'm getting my RAI today in a few hours so I'm nice and hypo right now. Pretty much borderline nuts if you want the truth!  I too have had difficulty sleeping. Or, I fall asleep easily but wake up and then can't fall back.  I finally started taking a hot bubble bath with lavender bath bubbles followed by this lavender sleep lotion all over my body and then two Benedryl tablets.  That helps the best but Benedryl doesn't work if you take it for more than 2 or 3 days. I think it's just one of the side effects of being hypo. And here I thought I was going to be sleeping all the time! NOT!  I think it's okay to take some Tylenol PM or other over the counter sleep aids if they help you. Benedryl works best for me but take what works for you.  The past few days have been the worst for me because I wake up hurting everywhere and just can't get comfortable.  I'm so glad it's almost over. Good luck.
