It really depends on what your "other half" does after surgery. Usually, the other side will take over function and everything remains normalNormal saline flush. Sometimes, the other side doesn't produce enough hormone and you need medication. I had my right side removed in November. My TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh was normalNormal saline flush before surgery but now it's high (meaning I'm slightly hypo-thyroid). People with hypothyroidism can gain weight if it goes untreated. Your TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh levels will be measure after surgery and you'll know if your thyroid is not producing enough TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh. If not, you'll take medication and avoid all the symptoms that can come with being hypo. I'm a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys hypo-thyroid right now and I haven't gained any weight.
I was the oppoiste .. with me I actually have loss of hunger when my TSH is in the 1's or below vs. what most people get and that is more hunger LOL! Go figure! My partial was 1/7/07 .. almost a year to the date of yours .. I wish you luck .. my other side never regained function but doesn't matter as two small cancer areas were found so I take Synthroid anyway to supress the other side.
Best of luck to you on the 8th!
