Hello! Just wondering how  the transition was from Armour back to Synthroid with Cytomel added? Was it a smooth transition? How much Armour were you on? What dose are you on now w/ the synthetic t3 and t4?

I don't think Synthroid, per se, has so many problems.

The problem is that we are all so very different.  Some of us do fine on T4-only meds (like Synthroid).  Some of us need both T4 and T3 (Cytomel).  Some of us only do well on dessicated thyroid.  In addition to the medications, there are fillers or binders in the different preparations that cause some people problems.  We are dealing with a lifelong condition, so side effects, etc. are not something you just put up with for a couple of weeks like when you take an antibiotic, for instance. Furthermore, we are all different and have different comfort levels of FT3, FT4 and TSH.  So, adjusting meds to proper levels is time consuming and trying.

Thyroid is a much more complex issue than is generally recognized.

Hi.. I was on Armour for over year until the "new junk" came out.. I am now on the Synthroid with Cytomel and doing great. When I first had my TT last year, I tried the Synthroid without the Cytomel and sis terribly.. now that I added the T3.. its working good. I feel better now than I have in a very long time!! Even on the Armour!

Hope this helps!

Hello! Synthroid is only a synthetic t4 medication. It is a storage hormone that must be converted within the body (brain, liver, kidneys, thyroid gland and in the tissues of the body) to the active t3 hormone. T3 is needed for proper function at the cellular level. If a person's body is not able to convert enough of the t4 into t3, then this is where the problem exsist. You probably have a conversion issue. Have your doctor check your freet3 and freet4 levels, please! They should both line up mid to high normal in the reference ranges. Put the ranges on a bell shape curve to get a good visual of where you are at. If your freet4 is good (right side of the bell), but your freet3 is low (left side of the bell) then conversion of the t4 med. (Synthroid) is your issue! If this is your case, then adding t3 in some form (dessicated, compounded or synthetic) will be needed. Good luck and be persistent! If your doctor won't take a closer look,(many won't) then find a new doctor who will. Only 100% of your health is okay!  Accept nothing less! Good luck and God Bless
