thanks for no help with my question

by fyrhorse, Sep 17, 2009 01:25PM
I was at first excited to find this website. I thought that I would be able to have my thyroid questions answered by a large patient support community and a medical expert. I've come to realize that this "community" is only a blogging site for friends to talk back and forth to each other. The medical "expert" gave me a generic answer disregarding specifics of my question. I posted a question on Aug 23rd and as of Sept. 17th have received no reply. I guess because i am not part of the circle of blog friends. I was a fool to think fellow thyroid suffers could help me. In actuality, I have to be on their friends' list. This website has been a waste of my time. Thanks for nothing.

Sorry about this...

Dr. Lupo said what I would have said. I had a TT (23yr) almost 15yrs ago and was okay on the dosage level I was on for 10 yrs. then it started going back to hyper. I went through the dosage adjustment in a span of 3yrs. 200 mcg , 175  , 150, 125 , 100, back to 125mcg. I have been on 125 for the past 3yrs. I did ask why I was going hyper if I no longer had a thyroid. I was told the exact same thing Dr. Lupo told you. They did do an ultra sound to make sure any left over thyroid tissue did not re grow because it can happen.

Currently, I do see an Endo once a yr. but I just started going 1 yr ago to an Endo. After my TT and surgeon released me, my PCP handled everything. He kept an eye on my levels at all time. To this day, my PCP handles everything for me, unless there is anything that I would need an Endo for.

Again, sorry no one replied.

Hi,
I had posted this when someone posted about not getting their questions answered.  Some people know more about thyroid issues than others.  Some know very little because they are new to it too.  I just posted about a whole body scan because I didn't know what I know now about it.  We are all newbies some more than others.  No, friends don't just post to each other.  Some drop out and move on.  Problem over so no need to post anymore.  That's just what happens.  Life.  Sometimes, like with cancer especially on the cancer site you get no responses because things are so specific to that individual.

Don't give up on the site.  There are lots of posts already out there that CAN answer your question especially if its about TT, RAI, Graves, etc.

Anyway, here is that other post on the thread something like "Questions don't get answered".......

I just wanted to put my 2 cents which is all it's worth.  I too have had questions that may not have been answered, but as someone new to this site I have found it invaluable to look at other posts.  I also search for posts that are similar to mine.  It has been a great service to me just to see what others are going through and/or thinking.  A big shout out has to go to some of the names I see all the time:  Smilerdeb, redheadaussie, chitchatnine, stella5349, laura1967, goolarra, and if I forgot anyone I'm sorry.  I often wondered how these people are able to post day after day.  Don't they get tired of doing it over and over again?  Telling their story over and over, analyzing others lab results, etc.!!  Thanks to all who volunteer their time to this site to help us feel a little more like we're not alone in this thyroid craziness.

I'll take my 2 cents back now.  :)    .......

Now, if you want to talk goiter, Hashimoto's, kidney stones, gallstones, cesareans, thyroidectomy or endometrial ablation, I'm your girl.

The forum has archives that you can research that might have an answer for you.  The question might be asked differently, but I have found it very helpful for research.
I can honestly say that this foum has helped me tremendously in dealing with my new diagnosis (hypothyroid).   I'm a newby, as of Aug, and was having horrible sx's that scared me to death and I'm a strong person.  I have been able to find the answers I need  just by browsing this forum and reading about peoples experiences.
The members that answer most of the questions are the ones who have "been there, done that" and want to help others.  They donate their time to help us "newbies" so that we won't make the same mistakes they did, or so we will know how to manage our own health more effectively.  They really ARE patient and reliable.  All questions are considered and answered to anyone's best abilities. This thyroid stuff can make you feel NUTS and it's nice to know you're not the only one that has been on the thyroid rollercoaster of life.
All of the above members that Loonette mentioned are a wealth of knowledge, along with Barb 135 and Gimel (who is GREAT with lab values).  Good Luck to you!!!!!!

If you posted something in August and I didn't respond, it was most likely something I wasn't familiar with.  As Lynn1988 said, I've "been there, done that" quite a bit, but thank goodness there's a lot that I haven't had to go through because of reading other people's questions and the answers that have been provided.

You also have to keep in mind that almost all of us have jobs and/or other obligations as well as trying to help people on this site.  I've asked questions that didn't get answered either and it wasn't because anyone was "slighting" me or because I wasn't on their "friends" list --- it was most likely because people were busy or they didn't know the answers.

Sometimes there are so many questions posted in a day's time that no one can read/respond to all of them.  If you post a question and no one answers within a day or so, just go to your original question and in the response area, type in "can someone please help me?" or something similar just to bring it back to "page 1".

I, personally, have made some great friends here and I have an enormous amount of respect for the 3 CL's, as well as the members, whether they be "old timers' or "newbies" -- everyone has a story to tell and we all want to help others not have to go through what we did --- thanks to those that helped ME get by with not having to suffer like they did...........

We are all volunteers here WORLDWIDE on this forum.
We give our spare time up to get help and support from others and also to return the help and support that we need. There are also different time frames...USA is 15 hours BEHIND Australia and UK is 9 Hours BEHIND Australia. So different members are online at different times.

I know a fair bit about thyroid issues but not everything as you must realise ..we are NOT Doctors and by giving you wrong advice and guessing, it could make you very sick.
As for Dr. Lupo....well he answers your questions to the best of his knowledge.
He doesnt know you from a bar of soap...doesnt know your medical history and basically gives you starting points to think over and research.

If the truth be known...the best Doctor for you is YOURSELF.
Research, read , learn.....be proactive in your recovery and instead of writing nasty postings like above...always remember there is someone who is going through a lot more he// than you.

I apologise if I am coming across too strong but I say it as I see it.
I answer questions from members here who I dont even know and dont expect them to add me to their 'friend list'.
I am here to help as most are.

The main thing you have to remember is......WE ARE NOT DOCTORS.
We are here for support and to help people through the hell we have been through.
If your question wasnt answered then bump it up and type in the posting .....:bumping this up for others to post."
It is so easy to miss a post.

Ok..now Ive said my bit...maybe you like to post yr problem in a new posting with the heading ...I NEED HELP......

Welcome to the Forum and hopefully we can all try and help you :)

Debs from the Land DownUnder lol.

As stated we might of seen the post but are not in a position to answer it, it is then something we dont know..I have been on this forum for around a month now and have not seen any of what you are saying (is only a blogging site for friends to talk back and forth to each other.) Yes ppl will speak back to each other as they get to know each other, a normal thing to do i think..All said, hang in there someone will come along and know what you are going through..Dawn

bumping this up for others to post.............

I second Deb's suggestion - repost your question in a new thread and I'm sure someone will try to help out.

Hi, having come to this community in 2007 it changed my life forever.  The people in this community are real people with real lives and are volunteers  -- keeping this in mind, I am truly sorry your post didn't get answered.  Of many websites out there, this is not a clique of friends -- EVERYBODY is equal and one thing that we pride ourselves on the most on this community (I am a member since '07) is that we never judge anybody.

When a post is unanswered, from time to time it does happen and for this we are terribly sorry, it's nothing personal ... with real-life, sometimes it's nearly impossible to answer every post on this booming community.  Please, if this ever happens again, please "bump" it back up to the first page or send a PM to one of the leaders ... there are three of us on this community and we're glad to stop by -- even if to say hello but @ certain times in our personal lives, we are on less than other times.  I know this has been the case for me the past few weeks with school starting and having 4 kids.

Here's my thoughts to your ?
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/total-thyroidectomy-bloodwork/show/1033412?personal_page_id=710958&;post_id=post_4798153

The main ? being, do you mind sharing why you had your TT .. then maybe we can add some additional thoughts.
