thryoid nodule, partial lobectomy, waiting for results

Hi I am a 45 year old female, and have a slightly larger than 2 cm nodule on my right lobe, the FNA showed hurthle cell neoplasm with degenerative characteristics, I just had a partial lobectomy, and during surgery the frozen section said it was benign. After three days the dr. called and said that they found atypical cells and sent it to a specialist at U of Penn., do you think they will recommend the other lobe be removed since they found atypical cells? Thanks for any advice. JP

No nodules on the other side, but the original one was 2.36 cm, not sure if that constitutes large enough. Thanks so much for the post.

Do you have any other nodules on the other side?  If not, they will probably recommend watching it, as long as the cancer was not large.  If you have any tumor larger than 1.5 cm you will have RAI, which will destroy the thyroid gland. It really depends on the final lab report.
