thyroid and high fiber diet

Just started prescription for lowest dose possible of thyroid medication, but was reading about the need to avoid a high fiber diet.  I thought high fiber was good.  Thyroid had declined since last summer when I lost my husband to cancer and had to start preparing my own meals, basically followed the Mediterranean plan with lots of salad, raw brocolli and carrots.  I've used Fiber One cereal and Citrucel for several years.  Now I'm reading about how high fiber can cause hypothyroidism and interfere with effectiveness of medication.  Any advice?  Do I really need to cut down on my fiber?

My long quest to cure chronic constipation has resulted in locating fiber as a culprit. The medical world is not unanymous on this by a long shot, but some Gastroenterologists are beginning to see that the volume of stool and gas produced by fiber is actually taxing digestion, not facilitating it, and the colon gradually becomes desensitized.

Once the colon is prone to inertia, as it will be with hypothyroid or longterm desensitizing, increased fiber will only make matters worse.

My gastro MD says he believes that damage done by fiber abuse will soon be shown to be a major problem and the next 20 years will be spent dealing with the patients who followed the fiber fad  at the urging of their doctors.

I could be wrong, but I've not heard of high fiber diet being bad for hypothyroid.  I do know there are some foods, such as cabbage, broccoli, etc that inhibit the absorption of thyroid meds, but if you avoid those foods, you should be ok.  I did a search for foods to avoid and came up with a list.

My doctor actually recommended the Mediterranean diet.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure some others will let us both know.
