Are those Free T3 and Free T4 or are they Total T3 and Total T4?  What reference ranges are given for each of them?  Reference ranges vary from lab to lab, so have to be posted with the results from your lab report.

What, if any, symptoms do you have?

I am a female, not a sir...  :-)

unfortunately, the "total" tests for both T3 and T4 are outdated and obsolete and of less value that the "FREE T4" and "FREE T3" tests.

the "total" test counts every T4 or T4 molecule.  But only the molecules that are NOT attached to a protein are usable.  Hence the term "Free" meaning unbound.

Only the Free hormone molecules are used in you body directlty.

So the problem with the "total" tests you had done, is we do not have any idea what portion of the total amount is actually usable by your body.

That said, a TSH above about 3 would by itself usually mean you have Hypo or low thyroid.

Your total T4 is only 13% of the range. Whild Total T4 is not the best test, the fact that it is very low in its range is also consistent with low thyroid.

Your total T3 is 45% of the range.  it is hard to tell much about this as it is not terribly low in the range. But with FREE T3 you would like to have this number at least above 50% and folks on medication usually often will need to approach about 67% of the range along with the Free T4 to be about 50% of the range.

Bottom line you appear Hypo (low) thyroid.

Typically a T4 medication is given in a starter dose.  Rarely is the first starter dose the final dose you will need.  You usually have to go up in small steps over time.  Each change in dosage needs at least 4 weeks to 6 weeks to really show up in blood labs.  So it is a slow road to get to optimized dose.

It appears that you have hypothyroidism... Is TSH the only test that was done?  You should also have Free T3 and Free T4 tested, as those are the actual thyroid hormones, whereas TSH is really a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone...

Also, can you please tell us what symptoms you have?

Typically, when one has hypothyroidism, they are given a prescription for levothyroxine.  Has your doctor suggested that you need a medication?

There is no particular diet you need to follow... All of do best with a diet that consists of vegetables, lean protein, healthful fats, fruit, nuts, seeds and whole grains in order to get the nutrients our body needs.
