thyroid nodules & family hx of cancer

I recently had and ultrasound that showed a mildly enlarged lobular thyroid to small 0.4 cm solid nodules in the left lobe.  All thyroid functions were normal in fact right in the middle of normal.  Then a thyroid scan was ordered which showed a normal thyroid size and that neither nodules was dominant, hot or cold, and that the thyroid uptake was slightly elevated 36% at 6 hours and 18% at 24 hours.  I have three relatives all on the same side with thyroid cancer at different ages and sexes, 50's female, 20's male, 40's female.  I think we are going to do a FNA as the next step, but none of the labs or imaging makes since and the only symptoms besides the thyroid which felt enlarged on exam, fit thyroid disease.  Other symptoms, enlarged lymph nodes at the jaw line for 2 years, bell's palsy and extreme fatigue, I am sleeping for the first time in my life from 4-5 hrs a night, to 15 hrs or more a day and you have to shake me to wake me up.  What are your thoughts?

All I know is thyroid cancer and there have been three cases.  I live in a rural area and have no access to an endocrinologist,  I am seeing a surgeon for aspirations of the nodules and lymph nodes on Tuesday.

What type of cancer?

With "normal" labs, enlarged lymph nodes, and your family history you are at increased risk.  Find an endocrinologist who *specializes* in thyroid conditions and bring him/her all of your lab results, imaging studies, and *complete* family history
