thyroid problems

I have been on synthroid for severel years now. I am always adjusting my meds 2-3 times a year. Is this normal. Also, the past several months I have been getting hot flashes but not lasting long. Keeping a fan on me at night from being too warm. I get moody. Are these from synthroid levels too low or could it be menopause? I had an ablation done almost 3 years ago so I no longer get periods. How do you know the difference. And how do you keep your synthroid levels steady. I take it same time everyday without food for years why the fluctuation?

I don't know your t3 lab ranges, so I can't tell if it's  low or low/normal. If so, then you'd need t3 added to your meds. So many doctors don't treat t3 and patients suffer needlessly. Copy and paste the link on the bottom. It is an article on the importance of t3.

This site believes in natural only thyroid meds, but you may want to pick up the book The Thyroid Solution, by Ridha Arem. He uses synthetic t4 plus t3 and sometimes he will use natural thyroid meds. The key is to take the thyroid meds that work best for your body. Arm yourself with knowledge. If you feel you need another med to balance out your Synthroid, many doctors are 'old school' and won't treat your symptoms. Then I would suggest switching to a doctor who will listen.

Take care...

here are my labs from 8/27/09 tsh 0.05 t3 uptake 36.0  free th4 1.4.  I am now currently on 88 mg of synthroid down from 111mg. I have no thyroid at all in by body. Had large goiters in 2002 and had one side and middle area removed and then in 2007 had the other side removed for same reason.

Why are you on Synthroid? Hashi, hypo?

What are your T3 levels? Has a doctor even tested your T3? If not, find one who will and who will treat T3 if it is low. Synthroid is a T3 only drug, and many hypos feel better with a combination T3/T4.

Post your labs here, so we can discuss further.
