thyroid psychoses

Hello,

Questions concerning hypothyroidism. Can a TSH of 118.0 (normal 0.4-4) cause extreme mental changes? What psychiatric symptoms could one experience?

Thank you for any insight.

I lived with thoughts that I don't control ,phobia ,weakness ,and many many other classic hashimoto symptoms for more than 22 years and in the last few years I experienced psychosis explicitly with voices !!

however , I have been through the same as you describe !
it supposed to stop once you are on thyroid replacement and balanced on proper dose !
this could take a while , for me it took more than 2 yrs , be strong !!!

Are you taking thyroid meds now?  If so, what medication and how much daily?

Hello,

I am a 39 year old female and had a total thyroidectomy due to thyroid cancer. I don't know if it was because it was such a huge shock to my body because of the loss of hormone, but I felt completely crazy. Not able to concentrate, remember anything and felt I wasn't "me." Major anxiety, paranoia and depression. I was not able to "sort out" normal daily activities and thought processes.

Thanks!

felt 'rotten' and cr@ppy, no energy, upset a lot, easily startled, stared a lot at the wall, tired but not sleepy, not very hungry but maintained weight. i swear my hair straightened. the skin around my cuticles peeled easily. too tired to talk. sensitive to low breeze. skittish. a fairly mental time.

My last TSH was 102 and I was feeling really foggy headed, paranoia, hypnotic state like stareing off into space all the time, felt like i was on the verge of losing my mind, like i could just snap into being insane, and still not sure if some of the symptoms i was feeling in bed was hallucinations or not, i thought i was dreaming but i was awake enough to feel it, so i'm not sure about that one.. It was pretty bad..

I do want to say tho, i don't think it has to do with TSH as much as it does Free T3 and Free T4 but mostly the T3.. Mine both were very very low and i think that is the one that causes this not the TSH..
