Hi -- it took me a good 10mos to get regulated and then it keeps changing and I"m at this now for 2.5 yrs. But if you can go with the flow and not get too aggravated it isn't too bad.

Yes, do not stop taking your meds. I do suggest that you insist that the doctor add free T3 to your testing. Free T3 and free T4 (not total T3 and total T4) are the actual, active thyroid hormones that largely regulate metabolism and many other body functions. Free T3 is actually the most important because it is four times as potent as free T4. Many patients have reported that they feel best when FT3 and FT4 are in the upper part of their ranges. Sometimes patients have difficulty converting T4 to T3, so it is important to know both. In my opinion the best way to treat a hypothyroid patient is for the doctor to listen to symptoms and test and adjust FT3 and FT4 with meds, as required to alleviate those symptoms. This link is a good reference for you.

Its been 3 years for me and my doctor intentionally put me on a higher dose, he said it helps to suppress any cancer. Also, whenever I was taken off the meds, it took me 3 months to actually feel back to normal. With no thyroid, you would eventually go into a coma and die if you went off your med.
my numbers are..freeT4..154ng/dl
3rd gen TSH 0.352uIU/ml
every 3 mo i have it tested. i have about every dosage of synthroid now! i am on 112 just changed from 125, felt better when taking 125, i am tired tired tired! cry at the dro of a pin. on other meds for depression also, but not working ..what would happen if you stopped taking thyroid meds altogether?
Thanks

In a word:- YES! I am now nearly two years on and I am still having trouble! There are many many many reasons why we can't get our levels right. It really is an individual thing.
Please put up your levels if you have them. This can help us to help you.
Cheers
