well i have a doctors appt tomorrow, this health clinic here is just irritating me sooooo much! hopefully tomorrows appt will give me my lab results and more info that i need to submitt on here. thank you to all who are responding!
The ethanol sclerotherapy (PEI) can be used to treat benign thyroid cyst. Large cysts will require more then one procedure; the cyst can expand and collapse (due to internal blood vessel rupture) but not to travel from one lobe to another.
thank you for responding! i don't have the lab info that you are asking for. i was just told by phone that it did not show signs of cancer. i'm going into see my doctor first thing in the morning, and i will have more info on it then. i had called the local health clinic that i am with and they had no openings so they sent my to the ER and said that i need to be seen that day. i haven't got any results from that visit,it was just this past fri(27th). but i did explain that i'm feeling pain and thats when i was asked if surgery would be a possibility for me. thats why i am going into the clinic tomorrow to talk about that with my doctor. i have looked up videos of the surgery process, and the out come of all of them came back good. from the two ultra sounds i have had done the left side of my thyroid showed no signs of cysts or nodules, just the right but as you can see from my picture it is worrying me. i'll be sure to post more detailed info tomorrow. thank you so much again!
Just to clarify one point - you only have one thyroid. It is a butterfly shaped organ with two lobes (like the wings of a butterfly) and an isthmus (center part like the body of a butterfly).
Have you had any other thyroid tests done? Those might include TSH, Free T3, Free T4, antibodies to confirm/rule out an autoimmune disease, etc.
To answer your question - no, a cyst will not move from one side of the thyroid to another. It is, however, possible to have a cyst or nodules on each lobe. I, personally, have multiple nodules on both my lobes. If the biopsy came back not showing signs of cancer, you are most likely okay; I'm sure your doctor will be watching it.
Have you talked to your doctor about the pain when you cough, sneeze or swallow? What is his/her opinion? Has your doctor indicated that removal of your gland might be an option? They will not be able to remove the individual cyst and usually the thyroid is removed when cancer is present or in some cases of Graves Disease.
If you have any thyroid labs that you could post here, please list the test run, the result and the reference range used by your lab, since these vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report. Knowing what your labs are will help members comment more fully on your situation.
