I gained 16kgs on anti-thyroid meds and hyperthyroidism.
It wasnt until I got my levels stabilised after RAI and TT that the weight started to drop off me.
No you will not lose weight while on Tapazole as this med blocks the thyroid function causing weight gain.
I tried everything I possibly could...treadmill, healthy foods and still no weight loss.
Not until my levels were stable.
Worry about the thyroid issue first and getting well and the weight will then sort itself out.
I went from 55kgs to 71kgs and am now at 60kgs.
But as my Doc said to me.........you will never get back down to the weight you was as the weight was HYPER weight.
And he was right.
I could do with losing another 3-4kgs but have come to a standstill.
I am happy that I am breathing and alive and if people cant accept the little extra weight I am carrying...thats their problem, not mine.
Be kind to yourself (I know it is depressing) but you will start to drop the weight once your thyroid balances out.
Dont even think of a diet drink as most contain iodine.
Ensure being one of them.
I REFUSE RAI FOR NOW BECAUSE I HAVE NO SYMPTOMS OF HYPER EXCEPT FOR THE WEIGHT GAIN. MY TSH IS LOW BUT MY T3 AND T4 ARE NORMAL MY TPO WAS OVER 24,000 MY TPI WAS ELEVATED AND MY SCAN SHOWED NODULES AND GRAVES BUT AGAIN I DO NOT HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS BUT WEIGHT WHICH RIGHT NOW I AM OK WITH AS MY WEIGHT CURRENTLY IS 145. I HAVE THE MEDICATION TAPAZOLE 5MG BUT MY ENDO TOLD ME TO JUST TAKE 1/2 A PILL EVERY OTHER DAY. I WAS JUST HOPING THAT MAYBE IT WOULD HELP LOSE THE COUPLE OF POUNDS I HAVE GAINED.

If your TPO is at the level you say then you have an Autoimmune Disease (Graves) and eventually you will have no choice but permanant treatment as Graves is very hard to treat.
In the meantime....keep doing what your Doctor says BUT research all you can on Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism as this is something you will need to know eventually.
Dont go for RAI or permanant treatment until you know for sure that yr thyroid is uncontrollable.
Stay on the anti-thyroid meds for as long as you can BUT do get a liver function test done as long term anti-thyroid meds can upset the liver enzymes.
All the best :)
