tsh of greater than 100,000

by dinksy, Dec 24, 2008 07:22PM
I am a post thyroidectomy pt due to papillary ca 4 yrs ago with RAI. Had my yearly Thyrogen injections last wk and my Thyroglobulin came back undetected but my TSH also drawn last wk after Thyrogen injections is greater than 100,000 my endocrine doc said she has never seen TSH at this level and wants to repeat TSH next wk.  I am feeling somewhat hypo but a TSH at that level is insane.  I am a nurse and the docs do not understand how this could happen.  Any suggestions???

Maybe a lab error?

However, regardless, your TSH is high and you need to get on thyroid meds.

It must be a fluke.
Possibly caused by the thyrogen injection?
Can't be acurate.

Repeat test will probably be completely different, as in closer to normal.

I agree with the above. It's gotta be an error of some sort. Ran the wrong test or something.

My Lord.......... I can't imagine 100,000 ( right? that is right -- right?) even being a number for a TSH.

Plus your condition requires you at or below 1.0

there's something very wrong with that lab test.

Lab tests can be wrong.  Repeat it, repeat it. even try a different lab.
I won't go into my wrong lab tests.  I'm sure everyone here is sick of hearing it.
I know this can send you into a panic.  I asked them to re-do 7 times in 4 days at 5 different labs until I got a logical result.
Mine was not the
TSH test, but one that is very reliable.
