When I had graves I was given the radiation iodine, but it did not work on me. I went into a thyroid storm, so they ended up having to do a TT anyway.

I had iodine treatment last may ans it has brought my leavels down. Then i started to put on weight on , not to much but now i have taken pains in my legs the doctor put me on naproxen 3 times a day, sometimes it helps it is getting me down. i am only forty and feel ninty at times as i am so tired. i have a wee boy aged 4 and work when i come home all i want to do is sleep. the doctor told me it would take around a year to get back to normal and i am still not. What do you think.

Sorry, TT means thyroidectomy. (took my entire thyroid out).

I had it done going on 15yrs ago. I have not gotten cancer from the radiation iodine, although I think it may have caused one of my salivary glands to get screwed up 15yrs later, but that is just my opinion.

I was too far into the thyroid storm for them to wait much longer than 4 weeks after the radiation iodine. I ended up being hospitalized twice because of it. I really did not have an option. I was literally down to 88lbs because of it. (Trust me I ate).

Naproxen is, I believe an anti-deflammatory. Make sure your potassium, calcium levels are being watched closesly. I had terrribel cramps and muscle aches due to low potassium levels. Also had low Vit D because of it. My entire system was screwed up due to the thyroid storm. My eyes protruded as well. My heart rate was 140 sitting down.
Just keep an eye on your symptoms.

I can't tell you much about the radiation iodine since it did not work for me. I know after my TT, it took a while to get my levels where they needed to be for me to feel back to normal.

When is your next appointment?

Hi i have graves in my right eye and it protrudeds out sometimes i get the worsed sore head then my left eye is playing catch up. when i go to the doctor he always says i have dry skin checks my pluse and does thyroid bloods then says he will see me in 4 months.waste of time. When i had the RAI they were not giving anything away as in what it can do to you, i had the smallest dose they can give u as i didnt want to stay away from my son for 10 weeks. They just keep saying it wont be long till i am better. i want to know if my sore legs is part of my thyroid problem.

My legs ached so bad, but it was due to low potassium.

For me, thyroid storm basically threw my entire organs/system into a whirlwind. My body thought I was diabetic (had to take insulin), my kidneys were causing protein in my urine, my heart rate was over 140, my eyes protruded (still do), insomnia, cold/heat intolerance, headaches, digestive system out of whack, lost a lot of weight, and the trembling hands.  It was not fun at all...

Do you go to an Endocrinologist or regular PCP?
