Thank you for responding. My daughters' doctor did check for antibodys and she has them in her blood. The doctor did not feel it was due to pregnancy but I did talk her into getting into an endochronologist just to be on the safe side. bassliz
It is described that there are Thyroiditis caused by virus (http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/dept/thyroid/thyroiditis.html), but I agree with Swan Song that in this case is a Postpartum Thyroiditis (Painless Postpartum Subacute Thyroiditis). Read this web site:

I believe the condition the doctor is referring to is Postpartum Thyroiditis. It's a painless inflammation of the thyroid gland that can occur four to twelve months after childbirth. Initially, one can experience signs of hyperthyroidism and then later develop hypothyroidism.
Usually the thyroid function returns to normal within 12 to 18 months after the onset of symptoms, but occasionally long-term hypothyroidism can develop, requiring lifelong treatment.
I don't think Hypothyroidism is because of any virus , it is common in women to develop autoimmune condition after deliver baby . Ask her doctor to check Thyroid antibodies to confirm the diagnoses
