Hi
I m sona and I m also have thyride and I want to gain weight . My weight is 37 kg form last 7 years and I m 26 years old plzz suggest me what I do????
I HAD THYROID SURGERY 2008 ,I HAD BEEN FIGHTING WITH HYPERTHYROID 4 YEARS AND KEEP LOSING WEIGHT AND LOOKING SICK, I HAVE A SMALL WAIST, LITTLE BREAST AND NOT TO MENTION I WAS ONLY 130lbs NOW IT'S 2012 AND I WEIGHT 234LBS, I TRIED DIETS, I RARELY EAT BUT I ALSO HAVE TYPE 1 DIABETES BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO
I lost 10 pounds after my surgery. Then I put 7 or 8 back on, then I lost. It really depends on your metabolism and how fast you get optimized. If you are hypo, i would suggest you ask your doctor to start you on hormone BEFORE surgery. My doctor put me on some extra cytomel right away knowing that it would be a fast dip in my metabolism while the meds took effect.
Also i wanted to say that i have had a couple of surgeries, but this by far was the easiest one i ever had. I had my thyroid out at 2 pm. At midnight i was eating a turkey sandwich and ice cream. Home the next day, out and about immediately.
i also had an thyriod removal surgery last week .. before that i was fat but not this much.. but now i want to knw...after thyriod removall.... i lose weight or i gained ??? confused and tensedd... waiitng for your reply
I want to thank everyone who commented on my question about weight gain after thyroid surgery. It really helped me a lot and at least, gives me hope. I have heard so many horror stories about weight gain and hair loss. That is why I put it off until I just had to do something about it.
Thanks everyone!!
I didn't gain any weight after my surgery. Provided your medication is correct you eat healthily and do some excersise there is no reason why you should gain weight.
DEAR
AFTER MY SURGERY, MY BODY ALSO GETTING WEIGHT, BEFORE SURGERY MY WEIGHT WAS 70KG AND AFTER SURGERY IT IS 74 KG. FOR TAKING HIGH ANTIBIOTIC IT CAN BE HAPPEN. IT WILL COME NORMAL AFTER SOMEDAYS. AND REGULAR TAKING XTRA HORMONE.
Not everyone gains weight after thyroid surgery. The key is to make sure your replacement thyroid hormone dosage is sufficient to keep your levels within normal limits. Make sure your doctor tests you within 6 weeks of any dosage change.
I have struggled with weight all my life, except when I was hyperactive thyroid from Graves. I had a TT two years ago, and have been able to actually lose 10-15 pounds. I did gain weight the first few months, but had one adjustment in my synthroid and have been SLOWLY losing weight ever since.
