weight gain before surgery/on methimizole/propranolol

I have been hyperthyroid/graves disease for over a year now, that I'm aware of, I lost approx 75 lbs within that year and in March I was hospitalized for tachycardia. Since my hospitalization I have been on Propanolol  2 80mg per day and methimizole 7 10 mg tablets/ day. Since beginning these medications, I have gained 35 lbs (March-May). When I mention my weight gain to the drs, they all say, "the medication will cause that". My question is, has anyone else experience a tremendous amount of weight gain like this in such a short period of time and did anyone loss the weight after treatment????  Please help!  I am scheduled for tt on Friday and I pray I lose this weight after surgery.

This discussion is related to will it help me lose weight.

What are the reference ("normal") ranges on your T3 and T4?  They will be on your report somewhere near your results, perhaps in parentheses.  Also, do they say FREE T3 (or FT3) and FREE T4 (or FT4)?

Thank you for responding, my last labs were TSH 0.02, T4 3.74, and T3 8.96

Weight gain is a symptom of hypo (i.e. overmedication on methimizole).  Please post any recent labs you have along with reference ranges (they vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report).

After your TT, your doctor will have to adjust replacement hormones.  That process can take a while.  He should be willing to keep adjusting meds until all symptoms (including weight gain) are gone.
