weight gain on meds

by Laura27, May 30, 2008 01:36AM
Hello im new to this and ive been taking two kinds of medication, Tapazole and Propanolol, I've been taking them for two months now and have noticed a slight weight gain. Ive always been thin so im really worried about how much weight I will gain. Ive just started dieting and excercising just to try to keep my weight down. So my questions are how much weight will I gain and will diet and excercise help?  Im also debating on if I should just get off the pills or not so I wont gain any more wieght, im not into starving myself so if I have to I'll get off the pills.    Please please please someone help me on this!!!!!!!!!

I just started Tapazole too... and since weight is already an issue for me... tho I'm 20 pounds less, then a year ago (possibly the hyperthyroidism, even tho I feel like I'm eating constantly). My worry is weight gain as well... so I'd be interested to hear input from others on similiar meds. This was actually a concern of mine, even before taking the meds. Since hyperthyroidism can cause weightloss... reversing the effects with medication, must cause weight gain (if even minimal), no?

I'm curious... what is the Propanolol for?

I know it's not much comfort, but I do understand your weight concerns. =)

Thank you for your concerns. I am feeling a little upset about the weight gain so thank you. And as for your question about Propanol, its for heart palpatations, shakyness, and other such things.

I was 119 pounds when Dx with Grave's hyperthroid. Immediately in Toprazol I gained 10 pounds in 6 weeks another 10 after another and so on.

I had RAI within 2 months after the Dx and that was 2003.

I am now at 158 pounds ( after finally losing 8 pounds in the last two months)

I know your pain and the thoughts you are having. I am an X anorexia/bulimic person back in highschool - so mentally this is dragging on me too.

I am dealing with it and now that I am finally stable in my meds for hypothyroidism I am working on the weight. It tough though
