About 5 years ago the AACE recommended the range be changed to .3-3.0, so you are considerably above that. TSH means thyroid stimulating hormone. It is put out by the pituitary as a signal to the thyroid glands. When it exceeds the "normal" level or reference range, it indicates the need for more thyroid hormone. So medication is the right thing.
