what does over-range DHEA and other labs mean?

Please help me interpret my saliva cortisol test that came back a few days ago:

DHEAS (saliva) 17.9 ng/ml 2-23 (Age Dependent)  I'm 48. The range for age 46-60 is 2.7-8.
> 5:45am Cortisol Morning (saliva) 8.8 ng/ml 3.7-9.5
> 11:15am Cortisol Noon (saliva) 3.6 ng/ml 1.2-3.0 high
> 4:00pm Cortisol Evening (saliva) 2.5 ng/ml 0.6-1.9 high
> 11:00pm Cortisol Night (saliva) 0.8 ng/ml 0.4-1.0

Current situation: My basal temps are still below 98, but I feel pretty good .I was hitting 98 pretty consistently at a slightly higher dose but at my Dr's suggestion, I reduced Armour a 1/4 grain a couple weeks ago.  I have been feeling scatter-brained again. It may be related to my cycle.

For the past six or seven months I uhave been waking around 5:00am or 6:00am. I used to wake almost every hour to go to the bathroom.  I have been sleeping better on Armour. My old Dr thought I had high cortisol years ago but all he suggested at the time, was reducing stress and it wasn't possible. Still have pretty high ongoing stress. I am active which helps, but still not as active as I was a coulpe years ago

I started a 65 mg iron supplement yesterday, with a plan to increase after a couple weeks. From what I'm learning, I will have to take it slow because I have low TIBC.

Any suggestions to help me to make a good decision? I haven't spoken to my Dr about these labs yet and would appreciate anything that may help me figure out the next step.

Thanks

Elevated DHEA can be seen with stress, cushing's syndrome, high insulin, androgen secreting tumours, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

I dont know anything about Phosphatidyl serine.

It is said that is someone suffers from adrenal stress, and is hypothyroid, they will not tolerate thyroid med very well.

In cushings, you have high cortisol all the time, with adrenal fatigue (or adrenal stress) its not that high all the time and makes coping stressful situations more difficult.

how that plays into reverse tee three i _ dont know excuse the keyboard problems

Thanks, LazyMoose. I will try the complimentery medicine forum for cortisol help.

Is high cortisol a factor in Reverse T3? Mine went from an 11 to a 33 over an eight week period. I have a 15.4 RT3 ratio and have cut back slightly on Armour.

So far I have never had any condition that you mentioned except ongoing stress.

Really hoping to get that straightened out, but trying to curtail one stress may cause more.

I ordered the test and my new dr seemed fine with it. I don't know enough about him yet to know if he is more holistically minded. He said he would know how to treat if there was a problem.

When we talk, I will ask if he feels a blood cortisol test would be helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions about adrenal support.) Have you heard of Phosphatidyl serine (PS).I'm wondering if it helps.

I dont know about the DHEAS. As far as cortisol, its not that high, but as you can see, even the ones in range are near the top.

Even though the saliva adrenal is a good test, most insurance accepting MD's will ignore this test and rely  on the blood test. Is your Dr more of a holistic type or what I call a regular 'clinic' Dr.? Did a Dr order this or did you get it yourself on line? If you do a blood cortisol for the PM time, you might actually show high cortisol. Blood cortisol tests are offered in two times with corresponding ranges AM, and PM.

There are suppliments that can help reduce stress, some are for adrenal support, meaning they help normalize cortisol, can raise and lower cortisol. Holy Basil is one, Ashwagonda is another. There are others that aim more at the brain than adrenals, the complimentary medicine forum can help you with that. Magnessium glycinate sooths the nervous system and muscles if taken at night away from thyroid med.
