Hair loss/alopecia

Has anyone had any hairloss or alopecia related to their thyroid medication? I wonder if my is caused by Synthroid. I know of one person who developed bald spots and switching the medication resolved the problem. I just don't know what med she switched from and to.

Hi, yes I am currently losing my hair and it started happening as soon as I began taking synthroid.  I know there is stuff that can be done about it but I just don't know what yet because I haven't discussed it with my doctor.  But, I am going to see him next week and if he tells me of anything that can be of some use to you, I will definitely get back to you a.s.a.p.  I know it can be stressful, trust me.  I bought this shampoo yesterday and I used it today and it worked extremely well.  Usually when I shower a handful of hair falls out but when I used this shampoo, only a small amount fell out.  The name of it is garlic shampoo and garlic conditioner.  The brand is Nutrine.  I don't know if it'll work for you but it's worth a shot. You should use it for now until the problem gets resolved.  Hope it helps!  If you do decide to use it, let me know if it works.  My e-mail is ***@****  Take care!

Hi Yes your thyroid problem can make you loose hair I used to have very thick hair  and since 1997 when i first got my thyoid problem Have have lost alot of hair now my hair is really thin. I don't think it is the medication I think it is just the thyroid problem cause i am on levoxyl.

Actually, I am sure that it is the medication, because it is one of the side effects and I only began losing my hair right when I began taking it threfore, I am positive that the medication is the problem.  I have had a thyroid problem for three years now and it was just 2 months ago that I began losing my hair.

oh I was just wandering, but then i never was on that medication. cause after I got radiation to get rid of my goiter i was always on levoxyl and that does not have that listed as a side effect so sorry about that

I am not on anything, and my hair is falling out. I think it is my thyroid. I wipe up so much everyday.

I've been taking diferent thyroid replacements for 7 years and started loosing hair within a couple years to the point people started to comment on it. I just started looking into ways to stop this loss and maybe regain some of what I've lost. On the side bar there is an ad for a thymus product does this stuff work or is it snake oil? Has anyone tried any produt and found they work?

Penn & Tellers show Bull **** next week is set up around the hair loss problems and what is an actual help and what is Bull ****. I'm going to watch just to see what really might work maybe there is nothing to be done about this but I'm not going to try all the snake oil cures that are on the market.
