10 yo dx with tics and Px Haldol and Benzhexol... not helping and may even show TD.

by docbill, May 22, 2009 06:00PM
A family member (10 year old boy) has developed Tics (3 year hx) and he is on Haldol and Benzhexol for the last 5-6 months.

The tics were relieved for a bit and now they are back. With more facial problems. What is described as Tardif Diskenisia (TD)? Tongue movement are new (2 wk hx). My understanding is TD begins with tongue protrusions and meds should be stopped. But you will know better than me about these things.

Do you know if children should be on these medications? Apparently they are slowing him down in school. The parents would like to stop them completely. Any advice would be great.

I would like to know if children can outgrow the tics?

Thanks
B
