Is weaning prednisone causing ALT rise?

Anyone have any ideas of the best way to wean off prednisone?
My ALT has been yo-yoing.
I have HCV and just did a viral load test for my doc.
However I think my nurse and I have figured out the reason for my yo-yoing.
It jumped when I lowered the dosage of prednisone, just like when I stopped cellcept. Before it came back down but this last time, I dropped from 2mg to 1 after only 2mg weeks instead of 4 and it all shot up and I feel fuzzy. I’ve also got canker sores and I don’t know if that's connected or not.
Here’s the figures:

8/4 78 38 | 4mg to 3, 8/9
8/20 100 48 |
9/2 75 43 | 3mg to 2, 9/6
9/16 110 78 | 2mg to 1, 9/21
9/29 319 242 | eek!!!
Has anyone experienced anything like this? My tp was 4/15/09
