My friends MELD score has gone from 47 to 14 in 9 months ... how should we be feeling ? We are in a suspended state of 'disbelief' it seems ....

MELD stands for Measurement of End-stage Liver Disease. It is a number derived from the level of Bilirubin, the INR and Creatinine. It is used to determine the necessity for Liver transplant and placement on the waiting list.
The one thing that I think is clear is that your Friend is not nearly as sick as he was and the risk of death is greatly diminished. I hope that your Friend feels a lot better and that you do as well.
