corneal transplant complications

by luckyduck1955, Aug 25, 2009 12:02AM
I have Fuch's Corneal Dystrophy and have had both corneas transplanted. The left eye in July of 07 and the right eye in Jan of 08.
The continuous stitch was removed in the left eye Jan 09.  Since then I have had several relazing incision proceedures and finally in May of 09 had an anterior slip repaired with a wound revision.  At the same time a toric lens was implanted.  My sight in that eye is still very poor.  I still have severe astigmatism and extreme light sensitivitiy. I wear sun glasses in the house.  Since the IOL was placed in the left eye I also experience constant light flickering.
I have not been persciribed glasses or contacts for eitiher eye.
The right eye still has the continuous stitch intact.  I am not doing any proceedures on the right eye until the left eye is more stable.  I still have several ghosts with the right eye, and 20/100 vision in the right eye.  I can read on most days if I hold the material quite close (10 inches away).
I am very concerned that taking the continuous stitch out of the right eye will have the same poor results that I had in the left eye.  My surgeon would like to put a toric lens in the right eye also, but since I don't have cataracts I would rather not do this.  The right corneal transplant has a very high spot on the lower medial side and they gave up trying to fit that eye for a contact, as it cut into my eyelid after a few hours of wearing it.
Do you have any suggestions of what I could try next?
