leg numbness

Is there a insect or other creature that when it bites it causes numbness and the reverse of cold and hot feeling on the limbs?  My husband thinks he may have been bitten but doesn't rember the bite hurting or stinging but just noticed it the day after his leg went numb?  Have you heard of this happening in Costa Rica?  We did not see many bugs while we were there except for a large beeish/fly. What can be done about it after 2 weeks.  He still is limping.

Dear Lynn:

What do you mean by the "reverse of cold and hot feeling on the limbs"?

Do you mean "tingling" or "asleep"?

And, I am not familiar with a particular insect that could cause this without the presence of a bite, sore, or ulceration.

What part of your husband's leg is "numb"? The foot? The inside or outside?

Was he wearing pants or shorts at the time when he believes that he was bitten.

Does your husband have a history of lower back pain or sciatica?
