Expectations for post percutaneous rhisotomy
I have ms-tn and am aware of the numbness to anticipate post surgery and I wondered how much muscle control will I have on the numb side of my face - ie will I be able to drink from a straw?

I have had two balloon rhizotomies. In both cases my pain specialist told me to "exercise" my jaw. I did this by chewing gum. You have to be careful at first, not to bite the inside of your cheek.

I was able to drink thru a straw in the recovery room after my surgery.

It's been three years since my last surgery and while I still have the "pins and needles" sensation if I touch that part of my face, my chewing is almost normal.

For me I felt numbness was better than pain, but everyone is different with what they can tolerate. I would do it again in a heartbeat if the pain ever returned.

Just be sure you have a skilled surgeon with lots do TN experience.
