If your soon to be husband is freaking out about the prices of diamonds, give him an insider tip that my friend shared with me.....get a diamond that is .01 below a round number (i.e. .99, 1.49 or 1.99), he said once you pass the mark, the price jumps.......good luck!

Also use Blue Nile as your benchmark. you shouldn't be paying more than that and if you are up for negotiating you can knock another 10-20% off that price. To get an even larger discount you either need to know someone that works in the industry or need to make it one of the exchanges yourself. I was lucky to visit the diamond exchange in Tel Aviv and got about 45% off the Blue Nile price.
