The ENT gave him sleeping medication which has increased his sleep only to 4.5 hours per night. The ENT gave him imetrix for possible migrane but it made the headache worse. A CT scan of the brain showed nothing. A CT scan of the sinus area showed penetration of the sinus by a wisdom tooth. The oral surgion has said this would not be the cause of his headaches and insomnia. Does anyone have any suggestions -- my child is in pain and tired.
Does your child have any ear infection problems ? Has your child's physician checked his thyroid ? How is your child's breathing ? Does he have difficulty concentrating ?
Amoxicillin and many, many other antibiotics have a side effect of causing: insomnia..the information leaflet that comes with your prescription drug DOES NOT LIST ALL OF THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS! Ask your pharmacist to look up the antibiotic that you are using in his "PDR" (Physician Desk Reference Book), it will give a list of ALL POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS FOR THAT DRUG.
Also, sore throat is another side effect of Amoxicillin and Penicillin. Take Care...GOOD LUCK...KEMOSABI.
Yes the tooth by itself could cause headaches and a headache could keep him awake. Have you tried letting him sleep with a raised head? Was there any absess (abscess) found? Try seeing a different dentist or oral surgeon. There has to be a link there. Our upper gums meet up with our cheek sinus. When you have a sinus infection you tend to see a dentist first because the molars hurt so bad. Also ask the dentist about TMJ or TMS)new name. It won't cause ifections but will cause unrelenting headaches. Just in case give your son soft foods for a while and see if that makes a difference with the headaches. Don't use straws to drink either. Have the doctors checked his adnoids for infection? Good luck.
