A lump at the back of the head with slight pain

Hello everyone,

I seem to have developed a small lump at the back of my head (about an inch above the hairline - probably it is called  the end of the occipital). It is slightly painful also. Also I can feel it (I mean I can feel it there internally). Is it a gland or something more serious?
I am a bit scared.
Can someone help me out please?

Thanks,
Sayantan

Hi,
Thanks for the information. I also feel occasional and very slight stabs of pain around that part and/or the top of the head. I have no idea if they are linked. I have fixed up an appointment with my doctor and will definitely keep you posted.

Regards,
Sayantan

Hi Sayantan
Thanks for writing to the forum!
A small lump in the area could be a localized collection of fat, a swollen lymph node, an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection) or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in a nerve).
I think you should discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
