AST 28 ALT 12

I recently had a physical and my AST and ALT were 28 and 12 respectively.  My doctor said that it was fine but have seen where the 2:1 ratio can mean liver damage?  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Your liver is fine, The ratio is only a pointer to the cause of liver damage when the levels are elevated. Since your levels are normal there is no damage

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The normal range of values for AST (SGOT) is from 5 to 40 units per liter of serum (the liquid part of the blood). The normal range of values for ALT (SGPT) is from 7 to 56 units per liter of serum.
Yes, a 2:1 ratio does show a liver problem, but rarely when the enzymes are in normal range. However if you have symptoms like jaundice, food not getting digested, pain under ribs, nausea, fever, etc, then maybe a repeat analysis of enzymes should be done. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
