Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Pain under the left shoulder blade is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, pancreatitis, or ectopic pregnancy or from the chest like in heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection. Acidity too could be the cause for pain. Discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining.
Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
I am having pain in my left upper back side under my shoulder blade. I have been in pain since yesterday. It started as a dull ache, like I need to stretch or sit up straight. I even felt the need for tums this afternoon. any ideas?

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Well yes, muscle strain, too much work load, bad posture etc can all cause pain in the spinal area below the shoulder blades. However do get a MRI of the area done to rule out any bone problem or pinched nerves.
Gastric reflux and pancreatitis too can cause pain more near a point under the left shoulder blade. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat gastric reflux. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food. For pancreatitis you will need an ultrasound of abdomen and some blood tests.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
