After Bug Bite, some Really, REALLY wacky symptoms

Okay, recently, I've received two sets of strange spider bites that swelled to approximately that of a golf ball, and itched worse than I thought was humanly possible.  shortly after discovering these bites (I can only assume I received them the night before or during some time walking around my woodsy development), one gland on my neck (I think it's a gland, anyway) has swollen to the point of being visible without moving my neck.

The bites themselves have not reduced in swelling in the past 48 hours, and have turned a rather grotesque shade of purple.  I also participated in a low-risk sexual act (protected sex) about 7 weeks ago and am fairly certain my partner was not HIV positive, and have not shown any ARS-type symptoms up until now.

Please, set my mind at ease at whether or not I should go to the hospital, or just keep it clean, or if I am undergoing some crazy illness that the bug bites caused.

the swelling's gone down in the leg now, and I live in Southern California, so the only bad bugger is the Black WIdow, s'far as I know...

But I AM gonna get that checked out as soon as I get a moment....

thanks for the advice...

I agree with PammySue - you should see your doc ASAP.  My mom's best friend was bitten by brown recluse and you describe it the same - she got very sick b/c she waited to see the doc.  Please let us know how you make out.

Brown Recluse spider bites can be very dangerous and sound like what you describe.  They are usually not felt at the time of the bite, but can become a health threat if not treated medically within the first day.  See your doctor immediately.

Don,t know anything about spider bites we don,t have any that bite in the UK but I should imagine that you need to see a Dr at least. I,m sure someone else on the forum will know for certain. Hope you get some solid advice off someone else. Take Care Chris

Sounds like you have a swollen lymph gland.  It is likely a result of these bites.  I would definitely see a doctor as soon as you can.

I would consider the possible kind of spiders that may have bitten you. If you have some bad spiders in your neck of the woods, I would definitely consider seeking professional help.

Have you tried taking Benadryl to possible alleviate the reaction?
