Am I ok?

Hello,
I have had an umbilical hernia repair 3 times and have had a mesh implant that tore away and now I have a plastic implant. I have been sore since the surgery on 1/20/06 and continue to have abdominal pain. Am I ok?

Hi,

How are you?
It is not normal to experience pain 2 years after umbilical hernia repair. It is quite possible that the pain is due to formation of scar tissue. Other causes like infection and recurrence of hernia also cannot be ruled out.
Please schedule an appointment with your surgeon and undergo a complete examination.
Take care!

I've had 3 hernia repairs, all three, with implant of polypropylene mesh. All three followed by burning pain. I haven't found anything to help aside from medication and the suggestion to remove persistent ulcerated tissue. I don't think pain is normal, especially if it's persistent, debilitating, and makes it difficult to perform normal daily activities. Please, if you find any information helpful, can you pass along?
