Anybody Heard of Pseudo-seizures?

I've posted this question elsewhere, but haven't gotten a response, so this is my last chance. I have had seizures most of my life (trance-like states), but in June, 2010 I had two Grand-mals. I have been seeing a neuro for a couple of years, but have not been dx as yet. Last week I had a series of three Petit-mals while in the drs. office. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and the dr ordered a direct admittance. A few days later, while being discharged, the attending dr. told me that he felt I was having pseudo-seizures, and I should see if I could get into the neuro sooner because this hospital was not capable of dealing with that kind of problem, and not to return unless I am having Grand-mals. What are pseudo-seizures, and if my PCP sent me there by ambulance on a direct admit, why tell me not to come back? I am on "Lifeline" because the seizures are not under control, and have not been diagnosed (still in the testing phase) yet. Any answers would be appreciated, Thanks.

I have had 8 grand mal seizures in my life.  Not sure this information will help, but what the heck, you never know which is why community is so important! Anyway, I drank from my late teens to early 30's and was told my then 7 seizures were from extremely low blood sugar (hangover) the next day.  I realized all my seizures were the next day after a lot of drinking.  I stopped drinking, it's been 30  plus years, but had another one, caused by a stupid doctor who put me on Lamictol for bipolar symptoms, got me to 100mg then when I told her it was making me completely flat, she said on you can go off of it really quick.  When I ended it one month later, 2 days after that, I had the seizure.  Lamictol originally was a anti-seizure medication and the fast withdrawal caused the seizure, both of my doctors agreed.  Anyway point is I am now on Keepra and Lamictol for at least 3 years, so thought you might want to just try a low dose seizure med before you decide it's just emotional.  Hey, people commit suicide when they have "just emotional" problems.  So be pro-active, always question your doctors (even thought they don't like it at all!) and always always get copies of your bloodwork and read it.  It is very clear they mark what is LOW or HIGH and my past doctor never noticed for 4 years that my blood work indicated I was in hyperthyroidism because he had me on such a high does of synthroid.  I completely crashed, my adrenals were almost in failure and that's when the endrocronoligist said I had been overdosed for at least 4 years, as she determined from my records.  Good luck.

Sorry, but this is confusing. Yes, I have gone through abuse and a lot of emotional problems my entire life. CAT scan showed Empty Sella Syndrome, excessive fluid around pit. gland, and possible TIA's, along with known head traumas. Results of EEG have not been given to me yet (most painful thing). I have nothing else to go on. Sorry...

Sorry hit the post comment button before completing the reply:

Pseudoseizures are more psychological than neurological. Emotional stress, strain, fears etc are the cause. The EEG shows no discharge of electrical activity during the seizure. Please consult a neuro-psychologist for this. Take care!

Please don't take this the wrong way.  I think what they are saying is that your seizure may be psychological in nature.  I'm not sure about your history or if you have had any significant emotional things happpen to you.  Please don't take offense to that.  Have they sent you to a psychiatrist.
