Asbestos exposure 40 years ago.

From birth til I was 11, I was exposed to raw asbestos dust. My father was a pipe insulator. He mixed the dry asbestos compound with water and wrapped heating and cooling pipes. When he got home from work, his work clothes would hang on a hook near the door (inside the house). The dust was so thick, I could draw and write my name in it on a desk 8 feet away from his clothing. back then, no one knew the dangers (well, manufacturers did, but not the workers or general public) of asbestos. At age 12 I started having sinus problems, needing to "snort" to release, what felt like, the "clumps" in the back of my throat. I remember telling our doctor, when I was 14, that I felt like I needed my sinuses sucked out. he just laughed at me. My sinus problems still continue, I am almost 52 years old. In addition, I have other serious illnesses, most diagnosed. My docs don't take the asbestos thing seriously and treat me like I'm a nut case. I am my ONLY advocate when my health and life is involved.
My mother died at the age of 58 from respiratory problems (she washed my dads work clothing and her dads also, who did the same work). My dad died at the age of 72 from Mesothelioma in 2007.
I have a "9mm" granuloma (measured in 2005) in my lung, chronic sinusitis. For the past 2 years, I have had a chronic cough from my upper resp area that, intermittently, produces phlegm thats dark green at times, has "balls" and streaks or flecks of blood in it. I have been told I have a sinus polyp and a recent CT noted this problem. At times, when I blow my nose, blood clots will come out and/or blood will drain down my throat. I have Rheumatoid, Sjogrens, a history of double pneumonia, CFS, PTSD, SOB, heart palps. I could go on and on with the list, but thought these were enough that may pertain to my issue posted here.
Please...if there is ANYONE that can steer me in a direction.  Thank you SO much.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Given your history, you are probably suffering from asbestosis. It is best to consult either an occupational disease specialist or a chest specialist for this. Since you had a CT, maybe pulmonary function tests were carried out. These give a fairly good idea about asbestosis. You need a recent X-ray that will show the characteristic opacities.
Treatment is with physiotherapy to remove secretions, nebulization with bronchodilators, and symptomatic relief. I am sorry, but there is no treatment to reverse the exposure effect—a sad thing!
The blood is coming from polyps. The only treatment is surgical removal and since they are causing bleeding, please discuss with an ENT about surgery.
Take care!

as a training officer (firefighter) I did a study of asbestos. I personnely knew a pipe cover working faml w/ 3 brothers. they all died for asbestosis. Yes, its a fact that their workcloths brought death into the home! a 4th brother also died w/ this and he did NOT WORK in that field !under a microscope one absestos looks exactly like a sewing needle and 100,000 of them end to end barely makes ONE INCH.! asbestos lays in the crevice of each oviolie (thats where air trnsfrs in the blood) (all this is in the lungs) and it is attacked by white blood cells creating puss.I wish God's blessing on you and good luck with any help you can get..because the world trade ctr's 1st 73 flrs had asbestis in the next 20 yrs there will probably be 10 to 20,000 deaths from people WHO WERE NOT IN THE BUILDINGS ! they simple got caught in the gas and smoke cloud..their's is an uncertain future indeed.

Thank you for your reply.  My last CT was almost 6 years ago and I did have pulmonary testing, but everything showed up normal.  I have had a recent chest x-ray and it showed the granuloma was still there, but radiologist did not calculate it's size, as it was a "screening for TB" x-ray.
My father had a biopsy done in the early 80's because he had a "spot" on his lung.  My mothers doctors ignored her complaints also...said it was COPD until she died and autopsy was performed.
Its been very difficult for any doctors to HEAR me and my concerns.  Its frustrating.
Again...thank you for your time and in validating my concerns.
