Bacteria on Mastoid Bones without ear infections

I having been having severe headaches and swelling of the bone behind my left ear.  I have only had 2 ear infections that I can recall in my life, however, I have had 3 Sinus Surgeries.  Anyway, the MRI and CT Scans show that I have Bacteria on my Mastoid Bones, both left and right bones, with the worst being on the left.  They tell me that this is really rare to have this, and I am allergic to the Penicillian family, they have tried me on other antibiotic's and I have been hospitalized due to my sysmtoms getting worse and my white count going up.  My fever has been up a little, but mainly has stayed at 96 and even down to 95 once.  I need help understanding what is going on with me.  Has anyone had this and can they share with me.  I am a female of 45 and I cant get the pain to stop.  Please give me any information that could help me.  The ENT that came and saw me in the hospital says that the MRI's and CT Scans are not acceptable and he cut a hole in my ear drum and there was no pus, no infection at all, and he never came back to see me again.  So, any input that someone can give me I  would greatly appreciate it and advice.  I am under the care of an Infectious Disease Doctor, whom is very concerned, so that makes me more worried.  Thanks in advanced.

I am going through the same exact situation. I am 50 yr old female and I have never had an ear infection my whole life. I was just diagnosed with chronic mastoddities and put on antibiotics. So far after 6 days I only feel worse. I have had a rhinoplasty and I still suffer from sinus 8ssues. I also had neck surgery 3 years ago and have had pain behind my left ear with small lumps and pain at the base of head ever since. I just thought it was due to my cervical spine issues. The past week my lymph nodes behind my ear became huge and painful along with super tender mastoid bone which is why I knew it wasn't just neck pain. I am planning on seeing my Dr. tomorrow for a follow up. I will let you know if I learn anything. I truly suspect my infection has been lingering since my neck surgery and that the surgery is what introduced the bacteria. I would suspect the same for you with your sinus surgeries.
